Preferred Transit, Inc. will be implementing its new Safety/Longevity Bonus Program as of January 1, 2003. Improving and/or maintaining safety, productivity, accuracy of paper work, and fuel economy are top priorities for us 2002.

What we need you to do is to first of all read through the material below and then sign the attached "Authorization Form" and return it to Stephanie. We must receive your form before January 18, 2003, in order for you to be eligible for the program. If we don't receive your Form you won't be allowed into the program until November 1, of the following year, only new employees will be allowed into the program.

Each and every driver will be awarded on a per mile basis when meeting the following criteria;

  • Safe and/or Responsible Driving:
    • Drivers will operate tractor/trailer in accordance with prescribed procedures; will observe safety practices and rules of the road. In addition, drivers must understand and follow proper procedure(s) in an event of an accident
  • Accuracy of Paperwork:
    • It is of the utmost importance that all paperwork, logs, and expense sheets match trip reports; specifically the dates and times. All paperwork must be completed and returned to the office in a timely manner.
  • Productivity and Fuel Economy:
    • Total number of miles per annum equating a minimum of 100,000.00 Fuel average per mile equating 6.0 miles per gallon or greater Idle time must be below 45 percent

    I Purpose of Program
To improve the Driver's pay, while at the same time improving the Company's safety record. The program, as established, will allow all participating Drivers to increase their income in return for nothing more than a commitment to SAFETY.

    V Deductions
In calculating the year-end payments, as described in VI below, the Company may have to deduct amounts from your account for preventable traffic accidents, cargo claims, and equipment damages, that result from Driver negligence. In addition to these deductions, any driver who is off from work for more than 14 days because of an injury or illness as a result of employment with the Company (Workers Comp), will lose the balance of their account that had been earned from the beginning of the Safety Year.

    VI Payments
The bonus payments, if any, will be calculated as follows:

    Driver's Year of Service
Less than 1 year Nothing is paid till the end of the Safety Year
More than 1 year, but less than      3 years One half of a cent per paid mile driven in the  year
More than 3 years One cent per paid mile driven in the year

Payments will be paid at the Annual Safety/Holiday Banquet, providing the Driver is still employed at the time of the Banquet. Note that attendance at the Banquet is not required.

    VII Withdrawal From the Program

Nobody should want to get out of the program. Since you do not contribute anything, you have nothing to lose.
    VIII Payment for Terminated Drivers
There will be no payment to any Driver that terminates employment prior to the date of the Safety Banquet.
